Julia Hack
Incident Overview
JULIA token project exit scammed on Oct 23, 2023, with the scammer removing liquidity worth 72,474 USD from UniSwap pool in a rugpull event.
JULIA is an ERC20 token trading on UniSwap. The scammer sold 9,999,999,999,999 JULIA tokens for 43.04 WETH, which is approximately 72,474 USD at current market rates. The stolen funds were then sent to a contract created by the scammer.
The attacker also emptied the liquidity pool of other projects, such as Apex Legends Coins (APEX). To distribute the funds, the scammer has to enter the same contract (0x52b55513…EC0251) that was used this time.

What the Attacker Needed to Succeed
Understanding the prerequisites for this type of attack helps auditors identify protocols that are most at risk and helps developers build better defenses.
What Auditors Should Check
If you're auditing a protocol with similar architecture to Julia, these are the critical security checks that could have prevented this incident (October 2023).
- Verify all logic paths related to Rugpull are guarded by proper access controls and input validation
- Review privileged functions (owner, admin, governance) for potential abuse vectors - centralization risks should be documented and bounded with timelocks or multi-sigs
